Armories of America were designed to be homes for State Militia units. This circa late 1800's example was home to one of the more well known units within its State. In contemporary times, it was my posting for over a decade, until redeployment to another armory. The building's beauty is highlighted by the Civil War and Victorian artifacts within its hallowed walls. Unfortunately, New York City is New York City and profit takes precedence over heritage. Having learned nothing from the terrorism of September 11th, the military is being kicked out and the magnificent edifice is being transformed from a noble fortress to history into an effete concert hall for the well heeled. Tragic!
