Dog Beach

Prospect Park

Brooklyn N.Y.

And now for you dog lovers... drum roll please!  The parks and people of New York City are very dog friendly and Prospect Park Brooklyn just might be the friendliest park of all.

Since 1976, the parks of New York City have had "off leash" hours between 9:00 pm and 9:00 am.  It's resulted in increased park use and drastically decreased crime.

While New York's nocturnal element walks their dogs in the evening, the park is really animated between 7:00 am and 9:00 am.  Weekends are particularly alive during this period with happy dogs and their red-eyed human friends.

There are frequent "everyone invited" dog parties.  And what outing isn't complete without a swim in a country pond, reserved for the furry companions and best friend of humankind.

Picnic time before the swim.

This is NOT Dog Beach.  It's a mucky puddle remembrance of several rainy summer days in the park.  But to the mind's eye of a sweltering dog, it's nothing less than a cooling, luxurious, mud spa.

This is Dog Beach.  You wouldn't believe this is New York City, would you?  Well, actually it's Brooklyn, but isn't that the heart of New York?

Oh boy... time for a cool dip in the lake.

But wait... there's more

This is my baby, eyeballing the ducks.  In point of fact, she loves birds.  But as you can see, that doesn't stop her canine glare from scaring the down off the one in the upper right, as it leaps into the air to escape the unknown.

Doggies (and most ducks) love Brooklyn... and I do too.
